"I was on top of the world when I made this image at the end of 2007. I had just returned from Afghanistan on a high, proud at what we had achieved and having fulfilled a life goal of performing my job in war-time. The beaches of Newcastle were a world away from the deserts of Afghanistan but I was gaining confidence in my art and myself."
